Save the Mithoff “This Place Matters” Photo Event

Lancaster Alive Board of Directors announces saving The Mithoff Hotel is a key component in helping to create a sense of place and improving Lancaster’s quality of life.

LANCASTER, OH – Lancaster Alive Board of Directors announces today their support for preserving the historic Mithoff Hotel in downtown Lancaster and a This Place Matters photo event at the site. The Lancaster City Council is making a decision in two weeks as to whether or not the Mithoff Hotel should be demolished. We strongly believe that razing our historic buildings is a tremendous mistake. The building, while currently an eyesore, is an irreplaceable piece of our community's historic fabric. Once lost, it can never be replaced. This isn’t just about history though; it is about our quality of life and our desire to live in a great community. We want to live in a community with a walkable downtown and unique locally owned business with upper floor housing options. We don’t want to live in a community where parking lots take priority over pedestrians. Our downtown is the heart of our community! We have various backgrounds and stories and we have worked in Lancaster to build community through our passion for historic buildings, community engagement and downtown revitalization. While we all have different experiences, what brings us together is the common belief that a sense of community is what shapes our lives and is only possible when we work together. This is why we started the athletic league and why we continue to try and bring the citizens of this community together. We believe saving The Mithoff Hotel is a key component in helping to create a sense of place and improving our quality of life.

“This Place Matters” Photo Event Lancaster Alive is asking community members to stand with us in support and join us for a photo in front of the Mithoff Wednesday June 19th at 7:00-7:45 pm to demonstrate to our city council members that we care about our downtown and we want our current city leaders to leave a positive legacy.
